Pinguicula cyclosecta is a Mexican Butterwort native to a small area between Nuevo León and Tamaulipas where it grows on limestone walls. It was first collected in the 1930’s and was formally described in 1963. When grown under intense light, P. cyclosecta is easily recognized by its beautiful bluish-green and violet colored leaves.

Description

Size and packing method: You will receive a bare root plant in its carnivorous state about 1 inch across or a plant in its dormant state about 0.5 inches across. Currently most plants in their dormant state. The plant will be carefully wrapped in a damp paper towel. If selecting with soil mix, you will receive a little over one cup of our prepackaged Mexican Butterwort Potting Mix in addition to the bare root plant. This quantity of soil is roughly enough to fill one 2.5 x 2.5 x 3.5 inch square pot.

Growing requirements

Mature size: About 2.5 inches in diameter
Light: Partial to full sun or grow light equivalent
Soil: Mexican Butterwort Potting Mix
Feeding: Feed bugs, dried bloodworms, fish food, or diluted foliar fertilizer such as Maxsea every 2-3 weeks
Humidity: 40-70% with adequate airflow
Water: While in its carnivorous phase, provide enough distilled water for the media to remain damp. Reduce watering and allow the media to dry out regularly once the succulent rosette begins to form.
Temperature: 55-85°F
Dormancy: Technically none, however carnivorous leaves are replaced by a smaller succulent rosette for part of the year

      Hi Jane, thank you for your review! We have a healthy population of springtails that live in the nursery so those are likely the bugs you saw. They aren’t harmful to the plant and like to recycle dead leaf litter :)

    I got your note that this particular one was dormant and I placed it in the sand mixture and kept the dome over it the leaves are waking up from there dormant sleep.
