Pinguicula esseriana is a butterwort species native to San Luis Potosi, Mexico. It forms carnivorous leaves in the summer and succulent leaves in the winter and prefers a loose substrate. In its carnivorous state, P. esseriana forms “drool edges” on its leaves so that dew and trapped prey won’t slide off.

Description

Size and packing method: You will receive a young bare root plant about 0.5 inches in diameter, carefully wrapped in a damp paper towel. Plants are more green at the moment. If selecting with soil mix, you will receive a little over one cup of our prepackaged Mexican Butterwort Potting Mix in addition to the bare root plant. This quantity of soil is roughly enough to fill one 2.5 x 2.5 x 3.5 inch square pot.

Growing requirements

Mature size: About 1 inch in diameter
Light: Partial to full sun or grow light equivalent
Soil: Mexican Butterwort Potting Mix, sand and perlite mix
Feeding: Feed bugs, dried bloodworms, fish food, or diluted foliar fertilizer such as Maxsea every 2-3 weeks
Humidity: 50-80% with adequate airflow
Water: While in its carnivorous phase, provide enough distilled water for the media to remain damp. Reduce watering and allow the media to dry out regularly once the succulent rosette begins to form.
Temperature: 55-85°F
Dormancy: Technically none, however carnivorous leaves are replaced by a smaller succulent rosette for part of the year

Planting and adjustment instructions will be included with your shipment.

Arrived, maybe earlier than I expected I think? And very excited to see that this “Pinguicula esseriana & Pinguicula ehlersiae `Victoria” came wrapped in a damped paper towel inside of a clear HotSouce packet. Smart cuz it fit perfectly. this came firmly packed and safely sealed so that everything was intact when they arrived. Didn’t look like anything fell out.🙌 Not only did I get these 2 I also Got myself 1 “Drosera broomensis ‘Taylor’s Lagoon turn off, Kimberley, WA’ & 1 “Drosera derbyensis x ordensis” along with the order so that’s 4 Total,
Just didn’t like the fact that I had orderd like 6-7 different soils 1st hoping it would arrive b4 the flowers but it was the other way around. Even after I order the flowers the following day, was mailed out 2geather and the soils still came a week late. All in all everything was methodically and safely packed! 💯And will still be ordering more in the near future! 👌I recommend anyone and everyone to Curious Plant! The plants are so Beautiful and very well kept I’m excited to see the growth!🌱

I recieved this plant 10 days after it was shipped which worried me, but when I got it it was in perfect condition. The plant was healthy and the container it was shipped in was still moist. I am very happy with the results.

Unfortunately due to Covid-19, it came after the weekend, but the plants were all still moist. The packaging was great. They came in sealed 2 ounce sauce containers. The essentia has been recovering well and now it’s growing new leaves and eating. I’m very happy with this plant. This is my first butterwort and it hasn’t given me any problems

Never had a complaint before just this time the paper towel was a little dry , and I was hoping it will grow roots I didn’t really see any roots , when I water it the plant kind of is just sitting on top of the potting mix but it took me a while to keep some of thes other plants alive I had to buy then more than once, I’m hoping I can keep it alive

I wish I can include a picture but CuriousPlant.com provided the best looking plants that’s ever been delivered at my house. I’ve tried a lot of other websites and nurseries, but they are by far the best. The Pinguicula Esseriana looked like it was thriving the moment I opened the package. It was beautiful and large compared to other nurseries who sell Pinguiculas
