Pinguicula ‘Florian’ is a hybrid between P. debbertiana and P. esseriana. The butterwort was registered as a cultivar in 2004 and is named after the breeder’s oldest son. P. ‘Florian’ produces leaves that become an intense shade of red under strong light. This plant prefers a loose mineral-based substrate that drains easily.
Description
Size and packing method: You will receive a bare root plant about 0.5 inches in diameter, carefully wrapped in a damp paper towel. If selecting with soil mix, you will receive a little over one cup of our prepackaged Mexican Butterwort Potting Mix in addition to the bare root plant. This quantity of soil is roughly enough to fill one 2.5 x 2.5 x 3.5 inch square pot.
Growing requirements
Mature size: 1-2 inches in diameter
Light: Partial to full sun or grow light equivalent
Soil: Mexican Butterwort Potting Mix
Feeding: Feed bugs, dried bloodworms, fish food, or diluted foliar fertilizer such as Maxsea every 2-3 weeks
Humidity: 50-80% with adequate airflow
Water: While in its carnivorous phase, provide enough distilled water for the media to remain damp. Reduce watering and allow the media to dry out regularly once the succulent rosette begins to form.
Temperature: 55-85°F
Dormancy: Technically none, however carnivorous leaves are replaced by a smaller succulent rosette for part of the year
Planting and adjustment instructions will be included with your shipment.

I wanted to wait to review after it’s had a couple weeks to settle in. They are small, but I knew that going in. I ordered another small one (immaculata) today! And it’s a little pricey but in the end, you get what you pay for and I want a healthy Butterwort. I have order them from Etsy before and I prefer the way Curious Plant packs and ships their Butterworts. When ordering from Etsy, I last received a bone dry cyclosecta (I actually ordered another one from Curious Plant today as well) and although it appears to be doing okay…. I purchase another just in case it goes south because I’ve been admiring them and it seems they are hard to come by. I’m a repeat customer! And will continue to be especially since I live in Ohio as well. I get my orders fairly quickly once they have shipped! Thank you Curious Plant!

Absolutely adorable. This is my first ping and I’m glad I got it from here. The packaging was on point and sized as advertised. I also got the potting mix as I’ve only grown vfts.
Thank you for an adorable plant.

Amazing! The plant was actually a lot bigger and more mature than I expected but this is definitely not a complaint. Great plant, packaged carefully, awesome color, best place to buy Pings hands down!

No complaints from me (shipped pretty well too), a bit smaller than you’d imagine but still pretty

My little Pinguicula ‘Florian’ arrived just fine. I immediately followed the directions, soaking the media in distilled water. Planted it very carefully, teasing the roots down into the substrate. The first 24 hours I kept the small container it arrived in sitting overtop the Pinguicula ‘Florian’ to keep the humidity up. The next day some very tiny gnats were outside my balcony door. I caught several of them and put the jar overtop my Butterwort. About a half hour later, the tiny gnats were stuck on the leaves. I think we are going to do just fine. Thank you for a very nice quality plant. I will purchase some Australian Pitcher plants when they become available.
