Pinguicula gigantea may be the largest Mexican Butterwort discovered reaching up to 12 inches across, though usually it is somewhat smaller in cultivation. P. gigantea is native to Oaxaca, Mexico and was discovered by Alfred Lau in 1987. It was cultivated as P. sp. ‘Ayautla’ until 1995 when it was formally described as P. gigantea by Hans Luhrs. In addition to its size, P. gigantea is unique in that it produces sticky dew on both sides of its leaves. Please see size descriptions below.

This ping really is the largest in my collection. The packaging of the plant was very safe and secure inside a deli cup. The root ball was easy to plant. My plant appears very healthy and I no doubt have developed “Ping Fever”!

I love my Pinguicula gigantea! It was carefully packed and arrived quickly, healthy and undamaged. I bought the small size which the website described as being about one inch in diameter but the plant that I received was actually at least 2 inches in diameter! Before I placed my order, I had a question and Elizabeth, the co-owner, responded quickly and was able to accommodate my request. Because of their large wonderful selection of carnivorous plants and great customer service, I plan to order all of my future carnivorous plants from Curious Plant.
