Pinguicula zecheri was discovered in 1981 by Ernst Zecher and Stefan Schatzl. It is a Mexican butterwort native to the state of Guerrero where it primarily grows on mossy hillsides in pine forests. Including the spur, the flowers can grow to be nearly two inches in size and are quite showy. There is some debate as to whether P. zecheri should be considered its own species or a form of P. moranensis. Please see size description below.
