Carnivorous plants need soil that is low in nutrients and allows air to reach the roots while still retaining water. This mix is the same one we use to grow many of the carnivorous plants in our nursery. We recommend it for Venus Flytraps, American Pitcher Plants, Australian Pitcher Plants, Bladderworts and most Sundews. Amounts are measured and shipped dry.
Description
Soil ingredients:
- Organic Sphagnum Peat Moss
- Perlite
- #20 Silica Sand
Soil is free from fertilizer additives. Pre-wet the mix with distilled water before using it to cut down on Perlite dust which is harmful to breathe. Pre-wetting will also make the soil easier to mix and work with when potting plants.
Product may arrive wrapped in an additional layer of recycled plastic reinforced with packing tape to prevent rupture during shipping.

I am new to sarracenia, drosera, and venus flytraps (primarily a ping owner) but just 5 days after putting them in this, they’ve been showing new growth… and they’re in dormancy with extremely limited light! I guess they just love this stuff.

I had just enough soil for the small containers I wanted to use for my new plants. Both of the plants I bought are doing well, so I think using the correct soil really helped.
