Our standard Mexican Butterwort Potting Mix works well for most tropical Pinguicula which tend to prefer porous substrates. This mix provides the necessary drainage while helping to maintain neutral to slightly alkaline conditions. Quantities are measured and shipped dry.

Potting mix ingredients:
- Perlite
- Vermiculite
- #20 Silica Sand
Potting mix is free from fertilizer additives. Wet the mix with distilled water before using to cut down on Perlite dust which is harmful to breathe.
Product may arrive wrapped in an additional layer of recycled plastic reinforced with packing tape to prevent rupture during shipping.

I’d nearly given up all hope of my Pinguicula Pirouette ever being happy. I’m sure that it’s a mixture of things, but this medium has helped in its happiness. A ping that was beautifully colored when I got it at the beginning of the year, that hasn’t had a beautiful color since the beginning of the year now has color forming at the tips of the leaves. I get incredibly giddy everything that I look at it. It seems to be incredibly happy. I wanted to wait on my review until I really gave the medium a chance. Absolutely amazing, thank you!

I had to make an update because not only has my Pinguicula Pirouette colored up, but what started out as elongated and green leaves has resulted in broader more colored leaves. I bought this ping at the beginning of the year and through trial and error I’ve tried to find it’s happy place. I had purchased orchid mix to assist in its happiness before this medium came and the orchid mix was helping, but nothing like this mix. The moment that I placed my poor ping on the medium, I had incredibly low expectations because I wasn’t sure what would happen.
I’d originally both this mix for a completely different ping that I’ve sense lost. I’d listened to some terrible advice after being given great advice and suffered my loss. I didn’t want this to go to waste and just rinsed the medium, placed it in a dish and popped my Pirouette on it. Within a week, I had a rosy colored leaf. I was thrilled, but I also had other leaves dying so again I wasn’t hopeful. I kept a watchful eye and nearly everyday a new leaf colored up. I still wasn’t hopeful. I water this ping every day, once a day, only enough to get it through the day since it seems to prefer being on the dryer side.
I cannot express my gratitude enough for this mix. I was so afraid of losing my poor Pirouette that I’d nearly given up all hope. I will absolutely be purchasing this again, and in a larger quantity next time. I plain on using it almost exclusively for my pings. I’m a newbie at this and really did almost give up all hope. I’ve spent money that I didn’t have on things that I couldn’t afford in order to make my poor plant happy. It’s currently in its dormancy phase, partly because it’s gone through a LOT of trauma and likely just needed a break. I’ve never seen it so happy. Thank you, again! I know that my review is quite long, but understand that I’ve always preferred to give real and detailed reviews. I gave an update because it seems like my ping has genuinely loved this mix and if I could share before and after pictures, I would.
