Cephalotus follicularis (a.k.a. the Australian or Albany Pitcher Plant) is native to the coastal area of southwestern Australia. The first known reference to the plant is from a diary entry by botanist, Robert Brown, in 1802. The carnivorous pitchers of C. follicularis utilize several tactics for trapping and retaining prey, including semi-transparent “windows” in the lid, bright coloration, nectar, a toothed peristome, and slippery inner walls to name a few. In addition to the carnivorous pitchers, C. follicularis also produces flat, non-carnivorous leaves.

Plant is in great shape and has some lovely red-maroon colouring. My only issue that I did not know or read that it would be potted in such a small container (smaller than the square pots I ordered). I am wary of repotting a new potted plant right away. It would’ve been better had it been potted in a bigger pot. The Australian Pitcher Plant is delicate so I want to avoid giving mine any more stress until it’s fully acclimated to re-pot it. Aside from that I love my new plant.

Thank you for your review Alé, glad you love the plant and sounds like it’s in good hands! For future reference, the pot size these plants come in is noted under “Size and packing method” in the additional information section.

Bought the large ceph after previously purchasing the small. Both are alive and the small is even making an adult pitcher. The large ceph came in wonderfully packaged as always, and is just as advertised in the image!! Love the shop.
