Carnivorous plants need soil that is low in nutrients and allows air to reach the roots while still retaining water. Buying the ingredients to make your own mix can be costly though, especially if you only need a small amount. This mix is the same one we use to grow many of the carnivorous plants in our nursery. We recommend it for Venus Flytraps, American Pitcher Plants, Albany Pitcher Plants, Bladderworts and most Sundews. Amounts are measured and shipped dry.
Carnivorous Plant Soil Mix
$5.50 – $13.00
- Organic Sphagnum Peat Moss
- #20 Silica Sand
Soil is free from fertilizer additives. Pre-wet the mix with distilled water before using it to cut down on Perlite dust which is harmful to breathe. Pre-wetting will also make the soil easier to mix and work with when potting plants.
