Cephalotus follicularis (a.k.a. the Australian or Albany Pitcher Plant) is native to the coastal area of southwestern Australia. The first known reference to the plant is from a diary entry by botanist, Robert Brown, in 1802. The carnivorous pitchers of C. follicularis utilize several tactics for trapping and retaining prey, including semi-transparent “windows” in the lid, bright coloration, nectar, a toothed peristome, and slippery inner walls to name a few. In addition to the carnivorous pitchers, C. follicularis also produces flat, non-carnivorous leaves.

Very well packaged, several mature pitchers, with several more developing pitchers. Currently going through acclimation phase. Lots of nice coloring. A little wet for cephalotus taste, but then again it did have a long bumpy trip. Doing really well at this point (1 week into acclimation).

Excellent very safe packing…your plant arrived in perfect condition and even better than expected. It is happy on my kitchen window sill for now and soon I will move it to its permanent home on my patio here in Southern coastal California. I am delighted with my new healthy addition to my growing collection of “gnat-eater” plants.

I am so thrilled with my new cephalotus. The plant arrived quickly and was meticulously packaged. I ordered the medium and was pleasantly surprised to see how big it was, with a mature trap I wasn’t expecting.
I very carefully repotted my plant without disturbing the roots (I kept it in the existing growing media). A week later and it hasn’t had any problems acclimating despite the reputation of being a very sensitive plant, which is a testament to the great job they did with shipping – I don’t think the plant even realized it had been moved! I had a small mildew problem (my fault, I increased humidity without proper air circulation), but some sulfur fungicide and a fan for circulation seem to have done the trick.
If you’re on the fence about ordering from Curious Plant, don’t hesitate!

You can tell this company has perfected the art of shipping plants on the site. It was like a puzzle. Each piece of tape unraveled more details that went into the packing process to ensure the safety of the plant. From keeping it moist and making sure it doesn’t come out of the container, to putting a cup over the plant itself to make sure it doesn’t get crushed from lazy shipping companies, I couldn’t think of a better transaction as I fall into the rabbit hole of carnivorous plants!
