Pinguicula gigantea may be the largest Mexican Butterwort discovered reaching up to 12 inches across, though usually it is somewhat smaller in cultivation. P. gigantea is native to Oaxaca, Mexico and was discovered by Alfred Lau in 1987. It was cultivated as P. sp. ‘Ayautla’ until 1995 when it was formally described as P. gigantea by Hans Luhrs. In addition to its size, P. gigantea is unique in that it produces sticky dew on both sides of its leaves. Please see size descriptions below.

    I named mine joffery, I was worried he wasn’t going to make it because I was seeing a couple leaves dying but he grew more at a fast rate and was collecting a lot of nats so I couldn’t be happier, I will eventually get him more friends!
