Pinguicula jaumavensis was first collected and described in 1991 by Paul Debbert. However, there are arguments that it should be considered a form of P. esseriana rather than having species status. P. jaumavensis is native to the Jaumave area in Tamaulipas, Mexico where it grows on limestone walls. During its active growing season, the carnivorous leaves form “drool edges” so dew and trapped prey won’t slide off as easily when it rains. In cultivation, P. jaumavensis prefers a loose substrate with a neutral to slightly alkaline pH.

Add prepackaged soil mix?

Description

Size and packing method: You will receive a bare root plant about 0.5 inches in diameter, carefully wrapped in a damp paper towel. If selecting with soil mix, you will receive a little over one cup of our prepackaged Mexican Butterwort Potting Mix in addition to the bare root plant. This quantity of soil is roughly enough to fill one 2.5 x 2.5 x 3.5 inch square pot.

Growing requirements

Mature size: About 1 inch in diameter
Light: Partial to full sun or grow light equivalent
Soil: Mexican Butterwort Potting Mix
Feeding: Feed bugs, dried bloodworms, fish food, or diluted foliar fertilizer such as Maxsea every 2-3 weeks
Humidity: 50-80% with adequate airflow
Water: While in its carnivorous phase, provide enough distilled water for the media to remain damp. Reduce watering and allow the media to dry out regularly once the succulent rosette begins to form.
Temperature: 55-85°F
Dormancy: Technically none, however carnivorous leaves are replaced by a smaller succulent rosette for part of the year

Planting and adjustment instructions will be included with your shipment.

I had expected a little bigger of a plant but on second look it came exactly as pictured. The plant is adorable, very healthy looking, and well packaged. I requested the plant be delivered to my door instead of the front office (due to occasional mishandling of packages) and it wasn’t but Curious Plants did their absolute best, wrote a clear note of instructions and even highlighted it.
