Pinguicula potosiensis is native to San Luis Potosí in Mexico. While the butterwort displays some similar characteristics to P. moranensis, it was formally described as its own species by Franz Speta and Franz Fuchs in 1989. However, there is still a fair amount of debate today as to whether the species classification should be revised. P. potosiensis prefers a mineral-based substrate that drains easily.

Description

Size and packing method: You will receive a bare root plant about 1 inch in diameter, carefully wrapped in a damp paper towel. If selecting with soil mix, you will receive a little over one cup of our prepackaged Mexican Butterwort Potting Mix in addition to the bare root plant. This quantity of soil is roughly enough to fill one 2.5 x 2.5 x 3.5 inch square pot.

Growing requirements

Mature size: 5.5-6.5 inches in diameter
Light: Partial to full sun or grow light equivalent
Soil: Mexican Butterwort Potting Mix
Feeding: Feed bugs, dried bloodworms, fish food, or diluted foliar fertilizer such as Maxsea every 2-3 weeks

What a lovely, little plant! It came safely as a bare root, and once potted, kept it inside a plastic bag with the top entirely opened to give it some proper humidity for ONE night only. It’s definitely doing it’s job of catching the gnats that have been inhabiting my other plants, and I’m definitely planning to get more in the near future. Thank you for handling my purchase gently and carefully, I’ve also recommended this place to friends :))

It’s been 2 and a half weeks . I wanted to see if my growing conditions were good. They’ve gotten darker redddish purple color that’s truly beautiful. The plant came healthy and only got better. I attribute it to the quality of plants this company grows and I’m always extremely satisfied with every purchase.
