Pinguicula rotundiflora was discovered in the late 70’s but wasn’t formally described until 1985 by Miloslav Studnička. These particular plants originated from the Aramberri area in Nuevo León. During dormancy, the rosette becomes small and compact compared to the swollen appearance of its carnivorous state. It prefers somewhat shaded conditions and loose substrate with a neutral to slightly alkaline pH.

Description

Size and packing method: You will receive a bare root plant in its carnivorous state about 0.75 inches across or a plant in its dormant state about 0.5 inches across. The plant will be carefully wrapped in a damp paper towel. If selecting with soil mix, you will receive a little over one cup of our prepackaged Mexican Butterwort Potting Mix in addition to the bare root plant. This quantity of soil is roughly enough to fill one 2.5 x 2.5 x 3.5 inch square pot.

Growing requirements

Mature size: About 1.5 inches in diameter
Light: Partial to full sun or grow light equivalent
Soil: Mexican Butterwort Potting Mix, sand and perlite mix
Feeding: Feed bugs, dried bloodworms, fish food, or diluted foliar fertilizer such as Maxsea every 2-3 weeks
Humidity: 50-80% with adequate airflow
Water: While in its carnivorous phase, provide enough distilled water for the media to remain damp. Reduce watering and allow the media to dry out regularly once the succulent rosette begins to form.
Temperature: 55-85°F
Dormancy: Technically none, however carnivorous leaves are replaced by a smaller succulent rosette for part of the year

Planting and adjustment instructions will be included with your shipment.

The plant is adorable! I am a seasoned orchid grower, but this is my first carnivorous plant and there is so much to learn. The plant in the “how to plant” video had a very long root, so I was very nervous that my plant’s root was barely over 1/4 inch long. I believe I got the root set and after a few days, the plant looks healthy. I read through all of the info and am still not sure how often or how much to water. Another thing that would be helpful to a newbie would be to list which stage the plant is in. A lot of critique I know, but I am very happy with the plant and your website is awesome – I look forward to adding to my collection!!
