Roridula gorgonias is a carnivorous shrub-like plant native to the cape of South Africa. Unlike other types of carnivorous plants that produce water-based dew secretions, R. gorgonias produces an extremely sticky resin-based dew that won’t rinse off in the rain. R. gorgonias cannot digest trapped bugs directly for nutrients and instead relies on a symbiotic relationship with a local species of assassin bug. The bugs are specially adapted to navigate the sticky tentacles of Roridula, eating other trapped insects and in turn fertilizing the plant by leaving their droppings on the leaf surfaces. In cultivation, applying diluted fertilizer to the leaves regularly can be used as a substitute for feeding.

Purchases several times from Curious Plant and have not been disappointed. The Roridula gorgonias was no exception! Good sized plant that arrived in pristine condition. A great purchasing experience, as usual.

I truly love these rare flycatcher proto carnivorous plants. I highly recommended this nursery. I initially order two smaller one but I had to buy the large size and it is huge. I’m glad this nursery offers them. They do great on my windowsill with a bright window and a good heated room with not too much moisture in the soil. Consider ordering one.
