This silica sand is the same kind used in our nursery. It is #20 grade so it is coarse enough to provide drainage without becoming compacted which is important for many carnivorous plants. It also makes an excellent top-dressing to inhibit fungus gnats and help reduce the growth of algae.

This sand seems to contain very few impurities, however mineral content can vary from one batch to the next so rinsing with distilled water prior to use is still advisable.
Warning: Contains crystalline silica which is harmful when inhaled. Ensure adequate ventilation, wet before use, and/or use other appropriate safety measures to avoid inhalation when working with the sand.

Needed “horticultural” sand to re-pot some ice plants. Who knew you shouldn’t use regular ‘ol play sand? :-)
Served the purpose well. Wish you got more bang for the buck but I think the price here was probably the best I saw when researching. Quick shipping. Would purchase here again if ever needed again.
