2.5 inch pots can work but we usually recommend slightly taller just to make sure you don’t have problems with the soil getting overly soggy (if tray watering) or the soil drying out too fast. Room for root growth depends on the type of plant. Butterworts for example, have very shallow roots and don’t need much space whereas sundew roots grow longer.
Hi Carol, the plant shown in the video is a sundew and uses a soil that is peat-based (darker in color). The butterwort mix we carry doesn’t contain peat and can be used by itself for any of the Mexican butterworts. Thank you!
How wet or damn/ moist? Should the Mexican potting Mix should be wen transplanting the new bare root butterwort/Ping?
Also when should I start watering and feeding them after transplanting the new bare root pings/butterwort?
When the butterworts are in their carnivorous state, it is ok to set the pot in a tray with water about 1/4 inch deep so the soil can soak it up. If you would rather not use a tray, watering the soil overhead is ok too so that it is damp to the touch. You will want to avoid pouring water directly on the plants though. Watering should begin right away, feeding can resume after the dew returns. Thanks!
I was going to use some pots that weren’t as tall, only 2.5 inch. Is that ok or is it important that the root is relatively straight?

The potting soil that sent is tan and in the video it looks like more traditional soil. Do you mix the Mexican soil with normal soil?

I meant a VFT
Is it ok to use a plastic open weave pot for a Sundew?
I have a VTF in one.
Doing great.
Using only sphagnum for the soil.
Can I do the same?
Yes an open weave pot would be ok for sundews as well as long as the soil can retain enough moisture.

What type of pot is that? Plastic?
Yes we used a plastic pot in this example.
It looks like a 2.5 x 3.5 plastic pot
