Pinguicula ehlersiae is a species of butterwort native to Hidalgo and San Luis Potosi, Mexico. It forms carnivorous leaves in the summer and succulent leaves in the winter and prefers a loose substrate. In its carnivorous state, Pinguicula ehlersiae forms “drool edges” on its leaves so that dew and trapped prey won’t slide off.

Description

Size and packing method: You will receive a bare root plant about 0.5 inches in diameter, carefully wrapped in a damp paper towel. If selecting with soil mix, you will receive a little over one cup of our prepackaged Mexican Butterwort Potting Mix in addition to the bare root plant. Growing requirements

Mature size: About 1 inch in diameter

Arrived, maybe earlier than I expected I think? And very excited to see that this “Pinguicula ehlersiae `Victoria´ & Pinguicula esseriana” came wrapped in a damped paper towel inside of a clear HotSouce packet. Smart cuz it fit perfectly. this came firmly packed and safely sealed so that everything was intact when they arrived. Didn’t look like anything fell out.🙌 Not only did I get these 2 I also Got myself 1 “Drosera broomensis ‘Taylor’s Lagoon turn off, Kimberley, WA’ & 1 “Drosera derbyensis x ordensis” along with the order so that’s 4 Total,
Just didn’t like the fact that I had orderd like 6-7 different soils 1st hoping it would arrive b4 the flowers but it was the other way around. Even after I order the flowers the following day, was mailed out 2geather and the soils still came a week late. All in all everything was methodically and safely packed! 💯And will still be ordering more in the near future! 👌Not only that I recommend anyone and everyone to Curious Plant! The plants are so Beautiful and very well kept I’m excited to see the growth!🌱

I’ve had my Mexican butterwort for several months, and I am super happy with how it looks, but I am wondering what equipment you guys use to keep yours humid enough that it forms the nice red color and dewdrops seen in the picture. Although my butterwort gets full sun, it isn’t humid at all in my house, and I am afraid that my butterwort might be dying because it has yet to form the dew it needs to catch and dissolve bugs. Do you guys have any tips? Anyways, thank you for the beautiful plants! Will be ordering from you guys again :-)

Thank you Kira! It sounds like your butterwort may be dormant. The leaves on dormant plants are usually less colorful and don’t produce dew. The dormancy could be a response to dry conditions. You might try giving it some more water or putting the pot in a terrarium with the top open to raise the humidity a little and see if this helps coax it out of dormancy.

I ordered 4 pings at the same time. This p. ehlersiae ‘Victoria’ was a beautiful almost greyish, purpley, red. The leaves formed an adorable rosette. Unfortunately though I did pop off a few of the bottom leaves during transplantation. Non the less I am very excited to see it grow.

They were all packaged very well. They came in condiment cups wrapped gently in damp paper towel with the lid taped on. They even put one of those plastic identifier stakes on the lid of each one.

Overall I am very pleased and would be happy to order from them again
