Drosera platystigma, sometimes called the Black-eyed Sundew, is native to Western Australia near Albany and Perth where it grows in sand and laterite soil. The pygmy sundew produces large orange flowers almost as big as the plant itself. During the dry summers, D. platystigma goes dormant. However, once fall arrives with increased moisture, active growth resumes and the plant begins to produce gemmae.

Growing requirements

Mature size:  Up to 0.75 inches in diameter in ideal conditions
Light: Full sun or grow light equivalent

Water: Keep soil wet during active growth and slightly damp during summer dormancy, provide water that is low in salts and minerals such as rain or distilled water
Temperature: 40-90°F
Dormancy: If kept consistently wet, most pygmy sundews grow well year round and don’t require a dormant period. However, watering less in the summer can help induce dormancy. Shortening the photoperiod in the fall will encourage gemmae production.

The color on this little one is really nice. It’s recovered well from transit and is producing plenty new dewy growths. Mine came potted in substrate mounded up on top like an ice cream cone to accommodate it’s unique growth pattern. Water with the tray method to keep the shape tidy!
