Drosera prolifera, also known as the Hens and Chicks Sundew or Trailing Sundew, is generally an easy sundew to grow for beginners. As the name suggests, it reproduces prolifically via plantlets that sprout along exposed roots and trailing flower stems. D. prolifera is native to Queensland Australia and known as one of the “Three Sisters of Queensland” along with Drosera adelae and Drosera schizandra.

Size and packing method: Plants will be shipped in a small plug of sphagnum moss. The plug will need to be potted in a larger container upon arrival. Each plug will contain multiple young plants.

Growing requirements

Mature size: 1-2 inches in diameter
Light: Shade
Soil: Carnivorous Plant Soil Mix, Pure peat or peat-sand mix
Feeding: Feed bugs, dried bloodworms, or fish food every 2-3 weeks, only use fertilizer if you have plenty of experience growing carnivorous plants
Humidity: 60-90%
Water: Keep wet at all times, provide water that is low in salts and minerals such as rain or distilled water
Temperature: 50-90°F, provide more humidity if temperatures are hotter
Dormancy period: None
